Electing Democratic Governors

With 36 states set to elect a governor in 2022, the Democratic Governors Association needed to rapidly expand its creative capacity to help a historic and diverse slate of candidates get their message out and drive millions of voters to the polls.

First Impressions

In early 2021, I led a top-to-bottom redesign of the DGA’s website, building a platform that would engage supporters, highlight the work of our principals, and streamline our online, grassroots fundraising.

Assembling the Team

The next step was building the DGA’s first-ever in-house Content and Creative Team — a seven-person creative studio of top-flight content creators, graphic designers, and video producers capable of generating multiple, simultaneous content streams to boost the DGA’s brand and help our candidates build theirs.

Success on Emerging Platforms

Our TikTok channel launched in early 2022, rapidly growing to more than 100K followers and 1 million views/week.

We launched two original YouTube series to highlight the achievements of America’s Democratic governors, and the massive stakes of the 2022 election.

Campaign Creative Services

Our team developed hundreds of videos, graphics, websites, billboards, flyers, and other physical and digital media for campaigns, while training campaign staff on content and creative best practices.

Thanks to the capacity we built early in the cycle, we were able to deploy videographers, graphic designers, and content creators to assist our campaigns with content capture at critical moments.

The Result?

A historic Election Night, in which Democrats gained two governor’s offices, flipped Maryland, Massachusetts and Arizona, and elected a record eight Democratic women governors, including the first openly lesbian governors in American history.
